Name: Holly Williams
College: North Park University
Major: English: Creative Writing and Secondary Education
1. What first drew you to North Park?
I loved that it was a small campus but in the middle of a big city. I also loved the beautiful campus and diverse neighborhood.
2. What other colleges were you considering?
Goshen College (Indiana), Bethel College (Newton, KS), and K-State.
3. How was the adjustment from high school to college?
You had to learn to manage your time differently — instead of being in school all day, and doing homework and other things at night, sometimes you had school at night and did homework in the day. Nobody made you go to class or do your work, and you had to be responsible to plan your time wisely and get done what needed to be done.
4. What was your favorite class? Why?
I loved all my creative writing classes because they were a lot of fun, and I learned how to improve on something that I had always just done for fun. I also got to meet and talk with other people who shared my interests, and yet were often very different from me.
5. What clubs or groups were you involved in?
I was in the Gospel Choir, Honors Congress, and worked for the Writing Center. I also volunteered for and went to various events put on by University Ministries.
6. Anything else you want to tell us?
Because it’s a small school, you get to know your professors really well, especially the ones in your major, and they care about their students and want them to succeed. I also really loved that it is a Christian school (Evangelical Covenant) but you don’t have to be a Christian to go there.
7. In one sentence, what do you love about your school?
I love the sense of community among the students and faculty and the commitment to growth personally and academically.
